Learning Sustainable Well-Being (LSW) Launch
Call for Applications from Senate Faculty to Teach in the LSW program. This is a 1-year pilot program, beginning Summer 2025.
We are pleased to announce the LSW Initiative, which is a series of 1 unit, P/NP undergraduate courses (taught within one’s home department), aimed at educating students on how to improve their well-being. These experiential courses contribute to UC San Diego’s undergraduate mission by transforming the way preventative mental health can be accessed by students.
First Course Announced:
Compassion for Self and Others
We are seeking ladder-rank faculty to teach the first course offering of the LSW initiative, “Compassion for Self and Others,” during the 2025-26 academic year, with training during summer 2025. This course was developed and tested in the UC San Diego Department of Psychology (see Frontiers 2023 article). It creates a unique classroom environment by teaching students the skills they need to improve their relationships with themselves and others through a combination of lectures, discussion and experiential exercises in a supportive class setting.
Professors open to apply
Requirements: Faculty selected to teach the course must participate in a 5-day training workshop in Summer 2025 and commit to teaching the course twice during the 2025-2026 academic year.
Compensation: Faculty will receive $3,500 in summer salary to attend the summer training and $1,500 in research funds for each offering of the course
